In 1953 we opened our doors on Duff Street, Inverness, and with that Inverness Glass Company Ltd was born! The photo below indicates this was achieved albeit with a modest set up.
We didn't even have a supply of running water, however a stroll to the river to fill up a kettle would replenish our reserves. This responsibility fell into the hands of the current joint managing directors' (Chris and Scott) Great Grandmother, Mrs Gray!
The photos below resemble two key services that shaped this decade. Can you guess what they may be before we reveal what they mean to us?
In this decade, we established ourselves as the new glass company in town selling glass by the ounce - this could come in the form of greenhouse glass, picture glass or windscreen glass worthy for your "Thunderbird" car' (also known as the 'T-Bird'!).
The glaziers would then haul the product onto the front of a bike and pedal it to the customer. We are led to believe there's a chance they might have passed street hawkers or peddlars either selling bottles of fizzy pop (ginger beer in particular) and even baked potatoes, which are trademarks to this period in time.
That rounds up our 1950s nostalgia, to immerse yourself into what we were up to across our existence, you can take a look at our Through the Decades Timeline here.
Whilst things have evolved for our business over time, one thing that has not changed in the last 70 years is the quality of service and products that we pride ourselves in providing.
