Applications Open: New Government Funding for Community Solar Initiatives

As of the 14th May 2025, the Scottish Government’s £8 million Community Energy Generation Growth Fund opened again for applications. The application deadline is the 25th June 2025. This fund supports renewable energy projects across Scotland including solar panels, hydro, and onshore wind that can achieve a significant milestone by the end of February 2026. Funding can help cover installations, including that of solar panels, which is exactly where Cairngorm Group can assist you! Our solar panel animation explains how solar panels work and the benefits of installing a battery system in really simple terms:   We’ve been inspired by some local case studies from CARES (Community and Renewable Energy Scheme), which demonstrate just how transformative solar panels and battery systems can be for communities right here in the Scottish Highlands: Strathdearn Shop and Café: had their energy bills reduced by 30% since installing their PV system. Oakwood Visitor Centre: become less dependent on electricity from the grid and the savings meant they could re-invest profits back into the charity. They also appreciated the value that a battery pack afforded them:

"The installation of a battery pack has been key to our savings in that it enabled the night-load to be covered by the battery, which would then be recharged during the day while also satisfying the day-time load. This battery pack significantly improved the benefits from the installation."

Ardross Community Hall: at the point of the case study, they reported that they halved the amount of electricity they imported.

What next?

Eligible organisations of the Community Energy Generation Growth Fund are to be Scottish registered and incorporated non-profit distributing organisations. Applicants can expect the funding to be awarded competitively, which will be based on an assessment of their application form.
