The Cairngorm Story

Inverness Glass Company was founded in 1953 and is now in the 4th generation of the Dowling family.
The business started in a shed on Duff Street, Inverness. Former Manager Director, Alasdair Dowling, has often joked the only running water in the building was the condensation on the walls and in order to fill the kettle someone was sent to the River Ness!
In the 1960’s Inverness Glass moved to Wells Street where expansion continued.
Over the years the company diversified from its traditional glass and glazing routes, which included car windscreens, single glazing and greenhouse glass to include double glazing in 1978, which was made at our then waterloo premises which is now occupied by Cairn Housing on Shore Street Roundabout.
In 1988, a purpose-built factory was erected in Lotland Street to house the new window production facility. In the year 2000, the 3 former sites became one with the state of the art production facility on Longman Drive was opened by former Scotland manager Craig Brown.
Since 2000, further diversification has seen the introduction of PV solar panel and kitchen departments which lead to the rebranding of Inverness Glass Company to Cairngorm Group to take into account the various departments it now covers. In addition to the Longman Drive headquarters, we also have premises in Elgin (Grampian Glass) and Thurso.
To commemorate our recent celebrations of our 70th year anniversary, we have a downloadable 20-page supplement which puts a spotlight onto each and every decade.
